The Mighty Nein's Introductory Sequence Chose the Incorrect Critical Role Song
The Mighty Nein, the most recent animated series by the beloved role-playing group, revealed a new introductory sequence. It features the beloved group of outcasts, outcasts, and criminals kicking ass and taking names, while also hinting at several agonizing backstories for characters including Liam O'Brien's wizard Caleb, and Travis Willingham's orc warlock, Fjord.
Overall, the intro looks amazing. But I couldn't help feeling that an element was lost in the music selection.
This sequence uses "Welcome to the Continent", an exceptional song composed by artist Colm McGuinness. This piece originating from the official score of the same name, the second one put out by Critical Role Productions LLC's record label their music brand. It's a great nostalgic choice, and I believe that devotees of the sequel series will love its presence.
But for me, The series' opening doesn't quite capture the hype and energy that was part of the show's live-play sessions. "Your Turn to Roll", written by singer-songwriter the artist, was an instant classic for me when it was initially unveiled in that year, and it improved further when cast member the performer added lyrics to the tune for the series' animated intro in the later year.
Including singing from one actress, Laura Bailey, Travis Willingham, as well as the writer, the song was catchy and enjoyable. At the time, I hadn't even watched the follow-up series yet, but it was so infectious that I kept it on my device. It's a song that knows how to get you pumped before you start an installment of fantasy hijinks.
The Mighty Nein's opening with "Welcome to Wildemount" doesn't strike the right notes in my opinion. It's a grand composition, but based on my understanding of the group, I feel that its tone is somewhat mismatched.
Naturally, Critical Role has already said that the series will have a few changes and differences from the original live sessions. An adjusted mood for its opening appears as one of them.
This animated adventure will be released on Prime Video from Nov. 19. For those eager before that, or wish to prepare to learn about the personas of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the actual play are available on the audio platform and the video site.
