Pep Guardiola has admitted experiencing "embarrassment" after an exchange with a TV crew member in the wake of Manchester City's 2-1 defeat at Newcastle this past weekend.

When the match concluded, an emotional Guardiola stepped onto the field and engaged in intense talks with the referee, Sam Barrott and Magpies midfielder Bruno Guimarães, and also touched the broadcast crew's equipment.

"I apologised," Guardiola stated. "I feel embarrassed, ashamed, looking back. It's not acceptable. I immediately apologized to the cameraman. I am who I am. After 1,000 games I'm far from perfect, errors happen."

"One thing is certain, I defend any team and my club, without a doubt. The reason why I support my squad is no doubt – based on my career to win the Premier League we need near-perfect totals, high nineties, or we fall short."

Team Standing and Manager's Take

City are third and are seven behind the Gunners after what was their fourth league defeat of the season. "Four defeats in twelve matches means we must do better," Guardiola admitted. "Technically, we can to win everything."

The manager was asked if this meant the quadruple was a realistic aim, Guardiola answered: "You are an experienced journalist, have you ever heard me about the quadruple in December during our historic run? Never."

Interaction with Guimarães

On the subject of his talk with the Newcastle player, Guardiola said: "I've known him for many years and post-match, even at the Etihad, we converse. Our paths always cross and we get along well. I love it. I’m an emotional guy, I love to talk and gesticulate."

Guardiola would not be concerned if an opposition manager addressed his squad immediately after a game. "Not if you talk with respect as I do, it's fine," he noted, before referencing Barrott. "He was part of it throughout the match, he was involved. Goodness, he was involved."

Controversial Decisions

City were unhappy that the officials denied a spot-kick for a Fabian Schär challenge on Phil Foden, and doubted Bruno's positioning when Harvey Barnes scored Newcastle’s 70th-minute winner. Pictures published later indicate the Brazilian was onside.

Next Big Match

Guardiola will take charge his century in Europe against Bayer Leverkusen this week. "It’s quite good, it means that every season annually," he commented.

City have 10 points after four games of the league phase, while Leverkusen have five.
