NFL Roundup: Denver Narrowly Beat Struggling Jets in Low-Scoring Battle
In a low-scoring contest this weekend, the Denver Broncos clinched a close victory over the winless New York Jets. Quarterback Bo Nix threw an early touchdown pass and kicker Wil Lutz provided the late decisive three-pointer to secure the ugly win.
Defensive Display Wins Game
Despite registering nine sacks against Jets QB Justin Fields, the Broncos found themselves trailing 11-10 after conceding a two-point play in the third quarter. Interestingly, the Jets could only produce just 82 total net yards throughout the entire game.
Nix, who went 19 of 30 attempts for 174 yards, engineered a critical 12-play, 65-yard drive that culminated in Lutz's 27-yard field goal with approximately five minutes left.
Historic Difficulties for Jets Offense
In spite of their horrendous offensive display, the Jets maintained the ball with a opportunity to drive for a potential victory. But Fields was sacked on fourth down from the Denver 44 after coach Aaron Glenn opted to attempt the conversion rather than sending out specialist Nick Folk for a long kick.
Fields struggled throughout, completing just 9 of 17 passes for 45 yards. The Jets finished with negative ten passing yards, the fewest in any game since 1998.
"The aerial attack was non-existent," Glenn commented following the game.
