Iran Reports Attack on American Facility in Bahrain, As Part of Regional Retaliatory Strikes.
Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Manama, as the country executed operations throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a large-scale and ongoing attack against it by the United States and Israeli forces.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an vicinity close to the headquarters of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The full scale of any damage is unclear and the US has not commented.
Missile Defenses Activated
In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait - all home to US military bases - reported they have engaged and destroyed incoming projectiles in their airspace.
In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry stated it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.
Operation "Truthful Promise 4"
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated it was attacking American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the offensive on the Islamic Republic launched by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.
That initial attack - initiated at around 06:15 GMT - has so far targeted areas linked to the Iranian leadership, with President Trump urging the people of Iran to rise up against the regime.
Regional Fallout
In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces said it had identified an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The defence ministry of the UAE announced that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses responded to the projectiles with high efficiency and destroyed a several projectiles," it added.
The statement noted debris landed in a neighborhood in the capital, causing some material damage and fatalities.
The US Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
