Homages Pour In for Rob and Michele Reiner as Medical Examiner's Findings Are Sealed.
Over a fortnight after the tragic deaths of celebrated filmmaker Rob Reiner and his partner, photographer Michele Reiner, peers and loved ones continue to honor the couple.
A Heartfelt Farewell: Cary Elwes Pays Tribute to His Director
Sharing on Instagram, actor Cary Elwes, who rose to fame in Reiner's beloved 1987 film *The Princess Bride*, stated he only now felt ready to post publicly about his personal sorrow.
"Adequate time has passed that I can finally put my grief into words," posted Elwes, saying that his introductory moment with Reiner left him smitten. "Once we started passing more hours together I understood this was someone I longed to have in my life."
The actor shared never-before-seen clips from the movie, remarking that he cannot recall "a single day without laughter".
"The film is about devotion, fidelity and selflessness. Values that Rob held dear. This is one of the many reasons he was the best person to helm it," Elwes expressed.
He went on to praise Michele Reiner, stating: "Asserting that they were a great team would be an understatement. My heart still pangs every time I think of you." He concluded with a line from *The Princess Bride*: "Indeed, death cannot stop true love but life is pain without you."
Martin Scorsese Remembers a Friend and Collaborator
In a separate tribute, legendary director Martin Scorsese paid homage to Reiner, whom he originally knew in the 1970s.
"Immediately, I loved spending time with Rob. We had a innate rapport for each other. He was very funny and sometimes sharply witty, but he was never the kind of guy who would command the room," Scorsese wrote.
Scorsese mentioned Reiner's supporting role in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, playing the father of the main character.
"His improvisation skills with the best. He was a expert at comedy, he worked wonderfully with everyone, and he grasped the human predicament of his character," Scorsese added.
Judicial Actions: Autopsy Reports Sealed
In a new development, a Los Angeles judge ruled to bar the release of the Reiners' medical examiner's reports, after an appeal from the LAPD.
A court order put a restriction on the cases to prohibit the public release of "all case details, evidence and photographs" associated with the ongoing investigation.
The coroner's office had previously confirmed their deaths were the consequence of homicide, with a record citing the cause as "multiple sharp force injuries".
Fallout and Commentary
In the wake of the tragedy, public personalities offered divergent comments.
Former President Donald Trump commented on the matter, offering divisive statements that were widely condemned by numerous commentators.
Podcaster Joe Rogan contributed his voice to the critics last week. Speaking on his podcast, Rogan labeled the comments as "disturbing" and suggested they demonstrated a troubling deficiency of sympathy.
Rogan finished by suggesting that an adviser ought to have stepped in when the impulse to comment on the passing was made.
