Heavy Rains Worsen Circumstances for Displaced Residents of Gaza, Officials Alert
Persistent rains over the recent period have worsened the extremely difficult living conditions of the many hundreds of thousands of evacuated residents in the region, according to aid organizations.
"Terrible" Conditions Brings Grave Risks
A spokesman detailed the weather overnight as "horrendous", with precipitation so severe that up to 15cm (6in) of water was seen on the ground.
"The recent weather was exceptionally difficult for the residents. The heavy rains were so powerful... And the gales were so powerful," noted the official.
There is significant anxiety that children residing in makeshift shelters in wet clothing will fall victim to hypothermia and other ailments.
Casualties and Extensive Damage
Health authorities have reported that one baby has died from hypothermia and at least 11 other people have died in structural failures caused by the harsh conditions.
Additional accounts suggest a greater fatality count. Spokespeople reported that several structures had totally fallen and dozens had been partly destroyed.

Relief Operations Deemed Insufficient
Agencies have stepped up deliveries of shelter, warm covers and clothes after the truce began, but they stress there is remains not enough aid getting in.
"We are operating tirelessly to bring in that aid and to allocate it, but the magnitude of the requirements is so vast that we continue to see thousands of people and children who are genuinely enduring hardship nightly," cautioned one representative.
Ongoing Concerns and Truce Terms
The second phase of the truce involves proposals for the reconstruction of Gaza, along with future administration, the removal of personnel, and other conditions.
Humanitarian groups have stressed the necessity for "increased and sustained humanitarian assistance to meet urgent and long-term requirements."
The conflict was sparked by an assault in the autumn of 2023. Subsequent military operations have resulted in a high number of lives lost in the region, according to medical data.
