Air Travel Restarts at Edinburgh Airport Following Significant Control Tower IT Issue
Passenger services have restarted at Scotland's primary international airport after a major air traffic control outage halted all operations.
Every arrival and departure were halted after an technical fault that occurred at about 08:30.
A number of travelers were left waiting in planes on the runway during the disruption.
Services Recommence with Continued Disruption
The airport confirmed at 10:40 that operations had restarted, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "cooperation and patience".
That said, ongoing issues are likely to affect schedules. Services bound for key destinations like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, and Bristol have been axed, with numerous other services subject to postponements.
An airport representative had earlier anticipated that dozens of flights could be impacted.
"Passengers are advised to get in touch with their carrier for the current status on their individual travel plans," was the consistent advice.
Cause of the Chaos
The airport attributed the operational halt to an technical fault with its control tower systems vendor.
Passengers continue to be advised to verify the schedule of their trip before departing to the hub as backlogs are worked through.
